Frequently Asked Questions (and Answers) on CONSCIOUS SEDATION
What is conscious sedation?
It is an innovative anesthetic technique which can reduce anxiety and fear while decreasing the patient's perception of pain.
What drugs are used?
The main active ingredients used today for conscious sedation are benzodiazepines (midazolam and diazepam), a class of drug with a very high safety record. With the anesthesiologist’s approval you can also increase the level of analgesia (if you want to feel less pain) by administering narcotics or NSAIDs.
How is sedation administered?
Drugs are administered intravenously by our anesthetists. In special cases (for example with children), it is possible to perform gastrointestinal administration (via drops).
How long can the effect of sedation last?
The length of sedation depends on the course of the operation.
