Oral Hygiene

Prevention is always better than cure. It may sound like a cliché, but the best therapy to keep teeth and gums healthy is to prevent cavities, gingivitis, periodontitis, and many other diseases; this is the role of Oral Hygiene and preventive dentistry.

What are the dental prevention procedures?

To prevent gum and tooth diseases, it is enough to visit the dentist regularly. Professional hygiene sessions are essential for maintaining and preventing oral diseases. During these sessions, the procedures that can be performed based on the needs are:

  • Tartar removal (teeth cleaning);
  • Root planing;
  • Air Flow.
Duration of treatment at the dentist

A first professional hygiene session lasts about 1 hour (the time may vary depending on the clinical case). Maintenance and check-up sessions usually last 30 minutes.

Is professional hygiene painful?

Absolutely not, it is performed with ultrasonic tips irrigated with water that vibrate and remove tartar and plaque.

Only in very rare cases is local anesthesia required for a professional hygiene session.

Technologies for professional hygiene

Our center has adopted an effective technology called Air Flow, which consists of a gentle emission of bicarbonate microparticles under mild pressure to help complete the initial cleaning performed with ultrasonic tips.

How many visits per year to prevent tooth and gum problems

Based on various factors (the patient's periodontal condition, hygiene, predisposition to develop gingivitis and/or cavities), maintenance visits are scheduled as follows:

  • Every 6 months in cases without periodontal diseases;
  • Every 3 months for patients with periodontal diseases (gingivitis, periodontitis, periodontology).
Cost of treatment

The costs of the various prevention and oral hygiene treatments are customized according to the patient's individual clinical situation and how many annual follow-ups are required.
