Transparent Aligners
EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW
Transparent Aligners

Known by various synonyms such as transparent braces, invisible braces, clear aligners, or invisible aligners, these devices represent a highly discreet, comfortable, and effective solution for correcting tooth alignment.

Orthodontics with invisible aligners: comfort and aesthetics

This technique is the most innovative and represents the present and future of “invisible orthodontics”: thanks to the transparent material they are made from, dental aligners are almost completely imperceptible to the observer. This way, there is no need to resort to traditional metal or ceramic braces, which often cause discomfort due to their inconvenience and noticeable appearance.

Invisible aligners are an excellent solution for both comfort and aesthetics. They are made of a biomechanically advanced transparent plastic material (SmarTrack) and are custom-designed to fit the patient's teeth perfectly, making them invisible. Additionally, since they are a removable solution, patients can take them out before eating and then proceed with proper oral hygiene comfortably after meals—something that is impossible with traditional braces cemented onto the teeth.

Here are the summarized benefits of this technique:

  • Invisible and highly aesthetic appliance;
  • Superior comfort compared to any other orthodontic device;
  • Possibility to remove the aligners at any time of the day;
  • Ability to eat without having any appliance in the mouth;
  • Does not interfere with speech;
  • Fast tooth movement and predictable final results through highly advanced technology software.

Invisible dental aligners: how do they work, and how long should they be worn?

First, to design the aligner, it is necessary to take impressions of the patient's dental arches. These impressions are scanned at our center using the Trios 3 Shape intraoral scanner, a comfortable image acquisition system that provides a 3D model of your teeth. This will serve as the foundation for creating the aligners.

Next, advanced software is used to develop a virtual treatment plan, predicting the movement of each individual tooth to its final correct position. This allows for the creation of multiple aligners needed throughout the treatment, gradually shifting the patient's teeth into the desired alignment.

Each time an aligner is replaced, the teeth slowly move, so week by week, they reach their final position, as determined during the software planning phase. Naturally, it takes time for the teeth to shift; therefore, each aligner must be replaced weekly.

However, for the alignment treatment to be successful, the aligners must be worn for at least 20 hours a day, removing them only when eating or drinking anything other than water.

Do invisible aligners work for all types of malocclusions?

Technological advancements in recent years have made this technique highly reliable and effective for almost all orthodontic cases. When treated by an experienced orthodontist, even the most complex cases can be successfully addressed with clear aligners.

In some clinical situations, invisible aligners are even “faster” than traditional techniques.
